Fluet is pleased to announce that our Government Contracts Practice advised leading U.S. shipbuilder Davie Defense in connection with a significant contract awarded by the U.S. Coast Guard to build five Arctic Security Cutters (ASCs), a new class of polar icebreakers designed to strengthen U.S. operational presence in the Arctic.

As part of a program authorized by Presidential Memorandum for up to 11 total ASCs, this contract represents a critical investment in national security and maritime safety. Two cutters will be constructed at Davie Defense’s sister facility in Finland, with the first ASC scheduled for delivery in 2028. Three additional ASCs will be built at facilities in Galveston and Port Arthur, Texas, combining world-leading icebreaker expertise with re-established advanced shipbuilding capability in the United States.

The ASC design is based on a proven platform, with seven previous variants currently in service. This program reflects the collaborative spirit of the trilateral Icebreaker Collaboration Effort (ICE Pact) and positions Davie Defense to deliver mission-ready cutters capable of operating in the world’s most demanding maritime environments.
