Team Member Profile
Michael “Mike” Patterson is a Senior Associate at Fluet. Mr. Patterson primarily represents, advises, and counsels clients on government contracts matters with a focus on bid protests and contract disputes.
Mr. Patterson has substantial experience in government contracts litigation, having successfully defended against protests filed with the Government Accountability Office (GAO) and represented the government in cases before the Armed Services Board of Contract Appeals (ASBCA). He has handled all aspects of protest litigation and contract disputes, including preparing persuasive legal arguments, conducting investigations through formal and informal discovery, researching relevant legal principles, and preparing appropriate filings such as pleadings, briefs, and motions.
Prior to joining Fluet, Mr. Patterson served as a General Attorney with the Department of the Navy, Naval Air Warfare Center-Aircraft Division (NAWCAD), where he provided comprehensive legal advice to Contracting Officers and source selection evaluation teams during all phases of the acquisition process. He also served as a Trial Attorney at the Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) Contract Disputes Resolution Center (CDRC), where he represented the Government in cases before the ASBCA and assisted the Department of Justice on appeals filed in the U.S. Court of Federal Claims and the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
Mr. Patterson’s background also includes experience as an Administrative Contracting Officer with the DCMA, where he ensured compliance with regulatory guidance and was responsible for post-award administration of various contract types including fixed-price, cost reimbursable, labor hours, time and materials, blanket purchase agreements, IDIQs, and basic ordering agreements.
Mr. Patterson holds a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law, where he served as Articles Editor for the Virginia Journal of International Law. He also holds a B.S. in Psychology with an academic focus in Mathematics from Bridgewater College, where he graduated summa cum laude.
In his free time, he enjoys weight training, playing tennis, catching live theatre performances, and discovering new culinary gems.
