Ian Button is an Associate in Fluet’s Government Contracts Practice, focusing on veterans’ law and appellate litigation, with particular expertise in analyzing veterans’ entitlement to Veterans Affairs (VA) health benefits and representing matters before the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims. His practice is enhanced by his extensive background in military intelligence and national security analysis.
Prior to joining Fluet, Mr. Button honed his appellate litigation skills as an Attorney in the Court of Appeals Litigation Group at the Department of Veterans Affairs Office of General Counsel. There, he developed extensive experience in veterans’ law while representing the VA Secretary before the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims. His practice focused on complex veterans’ benefits matters, including detailed analysis of VA health benefit entitlements and appellate advocacy. Drawing on his strong analytical capabilities, he expertly managed a substantial appellate docket while maintaining regular interaction with opposing counsel through briefing conferences. Mr. Button brings a unique perspective to his practice, having previously served in key intelligence roles with both the Defense Intelligence Agency and National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, where he provided strategic analysis on matters critical to U.S. national security interests, including foreign military capabilities and defense issues.
Mr. Button earned his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, where he was awarded a $100,000 merit scholarship. He also holds a Master of Science in Strategic Intelligence from National Intelligence University and dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Finance and German from The Pennsylvania State University, where he graduated with Highest Distinction and Honors. While at Penn State, he served as the Smeal College of Business Student Marshal and was a member of both the Schreyer Honors College and Paterno Fellows Program for Academic Enrichment in the Liberal Arts.
