This Holiday season, Fluet was pleased to support three staff-submitted local organizations through a variety of in-kind donations. In alignment with the firm’s core values, attorneys and staff came together to give back to the community and support causes close to members of the firm.

“We recognize our good fortune of having rewarding jobs and a supportive community,” said Natasa Kosutic, HR Director. By the same token, we recognize that many underprivileged communities don’t have that same fortune. This year, our employees picked three diverse organizations for us to share our blessings with: a local school, homeless shelter, and food pantry.”

Benton Giving Tree, submitted by Stephanie Benavides, Sr. Finance Manager

Benton Middle School, located in Manassas, Virginia, organized a “giving tree” to help support families seeking assistance this holiday season, which consisted of a variety of children’s wish-list gift items. Attorneys and staff selected an ornament from an in-house tree (pictured) and purchased the wish-list items to donate to the requesting family. “My daughter is a student at Benton Middle School, and I thought this was a great way for the community to get together and show support for one another,” said Benavides. “It really feels amazing to know that our contribution will help create a memorable holiday season for my daughter’s peers!”

Shepherd’s Table, submitted by Shevae Sims, Administrative Assistant

Shepherd’s Table, a homeless shelter located in Montgomery County, Maryland, provides free meals and support services such as distribution of clothes, laundry, shower facilities, referrals to medical clinics, counseling, treatment for substance addiction, mental health therapy, and more to those experiencing homelessness in our community. Fluet set-up a donation boxes and provided staff with a list of approved donations for individuals to provide to help support the shelter’s efforts this holiday season. Donated items included napkins, plates, lunch bags, hygiene products and clothing. “As a resident of Montgomery County, Shepherds Table means a great deal to me because I have seen the direct impact it has provided to the Silver Spring area community and it makes me feel good to know that the firm came together to lend a hand to the community in my area, despite our offices being located in Virginia,” said Sims.

The Spend Yourself Food Pantry, submitted by Cora Pototsky, Paralegal

The Spend Yourself Food Pantry, in Falls Church, Virginia, benefits the Northern Virginia area, and has a mission to help the hungry and build relationships in a warm and welcoming environment. Gearing up for the holiday season, Fluet placed a collection box in the office and invited members of the firm to donate some of their most needed items, including oatmeal, soups, and canned meats. “The Spend Yourself Food Pantry is great because they provide much needed items to over 200 families weekly, throughout the DMV area,” said Pototsky. “I have seen the positive impact in my community of the food pantry by knowing guests by name, partnering with local business for donations, growing fresh produce in our community garden, offering cooking classes, medical clinics, and legal aid. I am so grateful that Fluet was able to contribute to a cause that is very personal to me.”

In total, Fluet was able to support 10 families in need through wish-list gifts purchased for Benton Middle School and collected numerous boxes of invaluable goods for donation to both Shepherds Table and The Spend Yourself Food Pantry. “We were truly overwhelmed by our employees’ desire to come together and make this Holiday season better for the wider communities we serve,” said Kosutic.
