In a press release issued on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, the PGA Tour and the Saudi-invested LIV Golf announced their agreement to merge. According to the release, the agreement will be followed by a mutually agreed end to all pending litigation between the participating parties.
As of Tuesday, the Court docket (Case No. 5:22-cv-04486) did not reflect this update or any indication of settlement, with the parties still submitting filings as recently as the previous day. We were watching the antitrust lawsuit, which involved a series of claims and counterclaims filed by both organizations and issues pertaining to foreign parties.
All in all, what an anticlimactic end to what was otherwise a very embroiled litigation. It goes to show that even the most contentious of cases can and should explore early resolution.
